Celebrating International Podcast Day

Podcasting just enjoyed its 20th birthday and now International Podcast Day (September 30th) is right around the corner. It's the perfect time to join the celebration of this amazing medium and its continuous growth over the years. But have you thought about joining the party? If not, we think you should! Whether you’re a podcaster or a podcast listener, now is the moment to embrace the joy of podcasting and show some appreciation for the shows you love. It can make a world of difference in keeping those podcasts running and enhancing the value of this incredible form of content. So, together let’s jump in to explore ways to celebrate this incredible medium that has changed so many lives.

Ways to Celebrate International Podcast Day!

As a Podcaster -

  • Host a live show. This can be a fun way to have a special episode in which you can include your listeners in real-time. It can help build engagement and connection with them by giving them a sense of community.  Plus, it's a great way to have them included such as having a live Q+A session and making comments as you stream live.

  • Do an episode specifically for International Podcast Day. This could be about your podcasting journey so far, a best-of episode to highlight all the good moments you’ve had, or even a listener-specific episode to include them and highlight how podcasting has brought you your wonderful community.

  • Collaborate with other podcasters. Another fun way to celebrate is with other podcasters! Look at reaching out to other podcasters you love or are in your niche to collaborate on to highlight this day. It could be a cross-promotion, a special episode swap, or some other fun way like a challenge.

  • Share listener stories. This relates a little bit to having a listener-specific episode. But it’s a great way to have listeners highlight their favorite moments on the show, ask questions, and just engage with you as the host and a great way to build your community (and celebrate those who tune in and allow you to do what you love - podcasting!)

  • Run a contest. This could be a contest, a challenge, or a giveaway depending on what works best for your audience. But one that helps generate buzz around your podcast and get the audience engaging with your show. Then have the end of this contest be on International Podcast Day to celebrate!

  • Thank listeners and subscribers. As I mentioned, you would not be where you are today without your fans and loyal listeners. They are the ones that keep showing up, help share your content, and spread the word about your show. It’s a great time to celebrate them as well! Again, you could do a giveaway or a coffee gift card that has so much on it and any one of your listeners can use it until it’s gone.

As a Listener -

Podcasters aren’t the only ones who can be celebrating! If you are a regular podcast listener, this is a great time of year to show your favorite shows (and even new shows) some love!

  • Listen to a New Podcast. Not only will this help expand your horizons but you may be surprised what you discover. Ask your friends/family for their show recommendations, and scroll social media or even podcast directories to see if there are any fun ones to try out.

  • Show your support to your favorite creators + podcast industry members! I know this seems like an easy one but I feel it’s one that is often overlooked. Don’t forget to show love to the shows you already love such as subscribing, leaving reviews (the one you were going to get around to making!), sharing that you love them on your social accounts, donating to their crowdfunding campaigns, or signing up for a paid subscription. Either way, don’t forget to show love and support to those shows you love to help grow their show too.

Have a Pod-tastic Day!

Whether you are a podcast listener or host, celebrating your love for podcasting is never a bad thing, especially on International Podcast Day. We hope these tips help you celebrate in whatever capacity you are in and don’t forget to share your favorite creators to help them out too. It can make a big difference in their day and their growth. And with that being said, thank you for being here. Just like we said above we could not do what we do, without you being a part of our community and it’s true. It takes a village and we are thankful you are a part of our village!
