How to Get Your Podcast Organized for the Holidays

It’s coming up on that time of year again where you may want to take some time away to celebrate the holidays (or just need a break to finish out the year!) Whatever the reason may be this is a great time to start getting organized before then. But why is it important? Getting everything together can help you not get overwhelmed and maintain a consistent podcast schedule for when you are away. So, continue reading to learn our tips for how to get your podcast organized for the holidays.

Plan Ahead

First off, you’ll need to plan ahead. To get organized for the upcoming holidays you’ll want to make your schedule for the next few months. Some things you want to consider…

  • Are you still going to be releasing episodes?

    • If not, then you’ll have a lot less planning to do but you’ll still need to take into account that you’ll have to let your listeners know.

    • If you are, is it going to be your regular programming? Some other ideas you could consider are doing a series or shorter episodes.

    • But whatever you choose, you’ll need to consider what episodes are going out and when.

  • Also, plan out your episode topics and guests

    • Once you confirm you are still releasing episodes, you’ll know what to make sure to plan out what the topics and guests will be. Especially since it may take time to schedule with the guest and you’ll want an idea yourself of what you will be talking about, give yourself some time to record.

  • Make your recording and post-production plan

    • Once you know when, what, and who the episodes may include – make a plan of when you’ll be doing the recording (and getting the post-production ready) before you leave, you’ll want ample time to get everything prepared.

  • This is also a great time to create your content calendar to help stay on track. Even if you aren’t releasing episodes this can be a great time to promote still older episodes that your listeners may have missed or would find really helpful during this time.

Prepare for Time Off

Now, you have your plan and it’s time to put it in play and prepare for your time off.

  1. Start by communicating with your listeners what you are doing

    1. If you are taking time away, let them know you are going to be on break.

    2. If not taking a break, still let them know you’ll be away in case they are trying to communicate with you and you are planning to give radio silence. Or if you are doing a series/having shorter episodes, this is also great to note to your audience so they are aware of what’s happening!

  2. Begin recording your episodes and going through post-production.

  3. Also, get your social media content prepared (and scheduled) for when you are away.

If you are really strapped for time and need additional help, consider outsourcing your editing or other tasks to help ease your preparation. Reach out to us if this is the route you are thinking of taking and would love to learn more.

Enjoy your Break!

Once you’ve made your plan, put it into action by recording and post-production, go ahead and review one more time so you won’t feel the need to be bothered while away, and – finally, it’s time to enjoy your break your podcast is officially organized for the holidays!

Make sure that you’ve set your boundaries and communicated with both your listeners and team (if you have one) that you won’t be available during this time if that’s your plan. Or what your limited hours may be.

Whether your show is on auto-pilot or you are taking a much-needed break we hope you enjoy it to the fullest. Plus, you’ll be able to do so knowing your show is thriving and striving while you are chilling and relaxing. 😌
