7 Spooky Podcasts to get you in the Autumn Mood!

Are you already in the autumn mood? I hope so as we are heading into October in full swing! But, we get it if not. Sometimes it's hard to feel the joy, especially as we get older and have life and adult sh** ahead of us. However, it can be good for the soul to enjoy things in life. So, we have some spooky podcasts to help get you there, check out all the great options below to add to your fall listening list!

Morbid

My favorite episode so far: Episode 236. Lake Lanier

The Show’s Description: “It’s a lighthearted nightmare in here, weirdos! Morbid is a true crime, creepy history, and all things spooky podcast hosted by an autopsy technician and a hairstylist. Join us for a heavy dose of research with a dash of comedy thrown in for flavor.”

And boy is it! I absolutely love this show and it was one of the very first spooky podcasts I listened to many moons ago. Alaina and Ash are incredible storytellers of tragic events while also bringing lighthearted fun when appropriate. They have episodes on crime from today to way back when as well as including stories from their own listeners! Don’t miss out and check them out as they will certainly get you into a spooky mood.

Faculty of Horror

Where to listen? Apple and Spotify

Where to follow? Facebook or Instagram

My favorite episode so far: Episode 97. No Future: Jack the Ripper in the Lodger (1927) and From Hell (2001)

The Show’s Description: “Podcasting from the Horrored Halls of Academia”

Alex and Andrea do a great job unpacking cases but not in the normal sense of true crime. They dive into great detail and background on their topics of horror movies and crime while keeping it light and like it was just a conversation with friends. They talk about facts, myths, theories, historical overviews, and anything else that helps bring the whole story together and how it affects society and culture.  They also discuss films, literature, and any other works that relate and help discuss the different layers of their topic for example Jack the Ripper. If you want to take a deep dive into films, horror, and academia then definitely listen to Faculty of Horror.

Generally Spooky Podcast

Where to listen? Apple, Spotify, and YouTube

My favorite episode so far: (Season 2, Episode 8) Kelpies the Murderous Water Horses

The Show’s Description: “Scotland’s history is full of spooky stories, ghoulish goings-on, and magical mysteries. Join Highlander husband-and-wife team, Kieran and Eilidh, as they dive into the myths and legends of their homeland once a week. If you love learning about history, like settling in to listen to a good story, or just enjoy getting a little spooked, then this is the podcast for you.”

This is just a lovely podcast and I absolutely adore the couple Kieran and Eilidh. They seem so sweet and great tellers of spooky stories, history, mythology, and magical mysteries as they say above. They cover a wide range of topics from the Kelpies to different kinds of fairies, ghost stories, and more, they have a lot of different fun spooky topics in their episode list. They do a great job going over the topic, explaining and detailing all of these creatures and tales. It helps to visualize what they look like, what things are like, the lessons they may teach, and why these stories came about. Yet they also keep it fun, humorous, real, and interesting. If you haven’t checked out Generally Spooky yet, definitely add it to your list to check out because you are sure to smile and enjoy your time with these two!

Spooky Bitch Gang

Where to listen? Apple, Spotify, and Buzzsprout

Where to follow? Instagram or Facebook

My favorite episode so far: Found Footage

The Show’s Description: “Creatures, killers and questionable gender politics as the Spooky Bitch Gang investigates the horror canon.”

This is a really fun podcast for the spooky season, they cover topics from horror movies, real-life events (like the found footage episode), and other creepy/spooky topics like demons, creatures, or cannibals. There are a lot of dark but fun stories that these two (Crystal and Scott, the hosts) discuss. These are conversations that you feel like you can jump in and give your two cents in while around the snack couch (vs listening to a podcast). They are funny, vulgar, and do a great job of giving us an overview of these movies and the thoughts behind them. If you are someone like me who maybe doesn’t love scary movies this show is a great way to get some creeps while still being able to sleep.

It's Always Halloween

My favorite episode so far: Creepmas Creatures

The Show’s Description: “A year-round celebration of Halloween history and traditions, spooks past and present, with your master of scaremonies Lucé Tomlin-Brenner”

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and more yes. This is a great podcast to get you right into the autumn mood and add to your list of spooky podcasts. Lucé does a hauntingly wonderful job of making it fun and humorous to discuss the histories of Halloween and other spooky scaremonies. I have been able to learn a lot about the traditions and beginnings of many spooky things like like different holiday creatures discussed in the Creepmas Creatures episode. She has browsed through topics of homemade haunted houses to the Urban Legends. Don’t miss out on the creeps and knowledge you can gather from this show!

Historical Hotties

Where to listen? Apple, Spotify, and YouTube

Where to follow? Instagram or Facebook

My favorite episode so far: Haunts

The Show’s Description: “Sister duo Whitney & Lindsey Nelsen discuss prominent figures in history to research, argue, and debate which person is the hottest in this humorous and educational podcast. It’s a little bit equal parts debate team, history lesson, sibling rivalry, sexy gossip, and joke time humor-fun, with new episodes every Wednesday!”

Now, not all their episodes are related to spookiness BUT they have a lot of great ones out there that can still get you into fall spirit. Whitney + Lindsey does a great job discussing history and bringing fun and laughter with it. In Haunts they also do a great job with the “haunt factor” and explaining what their lives may have entailed in the afterlife. There is a lot of details and research behind the show. They have episodes in the spooky realm like Cursed, Witches, Morticians, and more. Then after the fall season, you can stay tuned in for episodes like Muses, Martyrs, Famous Couples, and more. So, they have a lot of fun topics and categories to keep you invested for days to come!

Halloweeners

My favorite episode so far: Dracula (1931)

The Show’s Description: “It was a dark and stormy night in Chicago. Two loud idiots gathered around a microphone to talk about spooky movies. There would be no survivors. Hosted by Cody and Kira.”

If you are into horror movies, this is a great show for you. Especially during the dark times of fall. Cody and Kira do a great job covering different movies from all years (the originals to the new productions). They discuss movies from Friday the 13th, It, Scream 2, and more. I love the breakdown of how they felt when watching it and the details to really give you a full-body experience (without being there and watching the movie too!) You get a sense of what the movie is about, chatting about topics within the movies themselves, and more. If you are a movie fanatic but especially for the creepy and horror type, then this is a show to hop on.
